Über Naxos

Naxos ist eine grichische Kykladeninsel, die im Herzen der Inselgruppe gelegen ist. Mit einem Umfang von 440 km², ist sie außerdem die größte der Kykladen.

Naxos is famous for its Portara, the typical small alleys decorated with colourful pink bougainvillea flowers, its quiet beach life and the magnificent costline.

You can reach Naxos by airplane or by vessel. A daily flight to Naxos is availiable from the international hub of Athens. 

There are two international airports on the Cycladic Islands, "Mykonos International Airport" and "Santorini International Airport".

 

Naxos, Paros aswell as the smaller Cycladic Islands can be reached best by ferry boat. The Transport by ferry is also the most common way to get from island to island in the aegean sea.  You could also visit Naxos as part of your Cycladic island hopping adventure.

Naxos Town

The capital of Naxos (Chora) offers a  picturesque sight with its small alleys and traditional Greek taverns, aswell as shopping possibilities and nightlife. 

Its heart is Chora Old Town and the Venetian Castro.

Beautiful Beaches

The best beaches are on the west coast side of the island. All beaches are characterised by crystal-clear water and long stretched sandy beaches.

Portara Naxos

The Tempel of Apollon, "Portara", stands on the islet of Palatia, near Naxos. It is possibly the first thing catching your eye when arriving at Naxos. The temple was built in the 6th-7th century BC and was dedicated to Apollo. 

Today Portara is the famous landmark of Naxos Island. The Portara has a height of approx. 6 meters and a width of 3.5 meters
